“I was blessed and fortunate enough to deliver my own children, now I’d love to try to help a couple who can’t carry a baby,” Sarah, a 34-year-old mother of three, told Dr. Ann West after the delivery of her third baby. She expressed interest in being a gestational carrier, or surrogate mother, for a childless couple. Dr. West told her that she was healthy and if that was what she was interested in doing, she could see no reason not to pursue it.
